A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by adding thereto a new section, designated §61-10-34; relating to making it a misdemeanor for a person to impersonate a veteran; and creating criminal penalties.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended by adding thereto a new section, designated §61-10-34, to read as follows:

ARTICLE 10.  CRIMES AGAINST PUBLIC POLICY.

§61-10-34.  Impersonation of a veteran; criminal penalties.

It is unlawful for a person to knowingly impersonate a veteran. Any person violating this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, shall be fined not less than $100 nor more than $1,000, and may, in the discretion of the court, be confined in jail not more than thirty days.

 

NOTE:  The purpose of this bill is make it a misdemeanor for a person to impersonate a veteran. The bill creates criminal penalties.
